Threads

If the server hardware specs for both providers are similar, you should set the ‘threads’ and ‘tool-threads’ on tedm-p02 to match the values on tedm-p01.)  The rule of thumb for the ‘threads’ setting is to multiply the number of processor cores by four.

tool-threads are set higher if you are using BDB or HDB. If using LMDB or MDB the more threads the slower it will get. This is caused because LMDB is to fast will get in each other’s way. The tool-threads setting with back-mdb should be set to no more than 2, but setting it above 2 is ignored. From https://rt.symas.com/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=409
